With new offices, such as the Praetor and Pontifex Maximus being created. Instead, the power of the king was significantly reduced, rather than abolished. However in this alternate timeline, history goes through a different path, and the office king isn't abolished and replaced by the consul in Rome. Additionally, the office of king itself was abolished in favor of the office of consul, with Brutus and Collatinus as the first consuls. Brutus then persuaded the incensed people of Rome to remove and banish Tarquinius and his and children from Rome. Brutus then summoned the comitia curiata, the assembly created by King Servius Tullius, and began to protest of the villainy and violence of the king. They then all took the oath as instructed, and then carried Lucretia's body to display it at the forum. Brutus drew the knife out of the wound, and held it up and said, 'By this blood, most pure before the pollution of royal villany, I swear, and I call you, O gods, to witness my oath, that I shall pursue Lucius Tarquin the Proud, his wicked wife, and all their race, with fire, sword, and all other means in my power nor shall I ever suffer them or any other to reign at Rome.' He then gave the knife to Collatinus, then to Lucretia's father, Spurius Lucretius Tricipitinus, and then to Valerius. While the men were discussing the matter, Lucretia drew a poignard and stabbed herself in her heart. The men found Lucretia sitting in her chamber, and she told them of what had happened. These friends were Publius Valerius Publicola and Lucius Junius Brutus.

According to Titus Livius (Livy), Lucretia acted quickly following the incident, and decided to send for her father and husband, as well as asking them to bring a friend as a witness. There are various versions of what occurred after. To spare her husband the shame, Lucretia submitted to his whims. Lucretias father, her husband Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus, and Tarquins nephew Lucius Junius Brutus mustered support from the Senate and army, and forced Tarquin into exile in Etruria. He threatened to kill her, and claimed that he had discovered her in the act of adultery with a slave, if she did not yield to him. Soon, Sextus returned to Lucretia's quarter, and after being refused to give herself to him. Lucretia received the princes graciously, though her beauty and virtue kindled the flame of desire of Sextus Tarquinius, the king's son, as well as Collatinus' cousin. They discovered all of the wives enjoying themselves, except for Collatinus' wife, Lucretia, who was tending to the house. With his companions, they started secretly visiting each other's homes. A Nobleman named Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus rose, and claimed to have the most dedicated of spouses. Then, the subject of the conversation turned towards the virtue of their wives. Meanwhile, the young noblemen in the king's army fell to drinking and boasting. However, the king failed to capture the Rutuli capital of Ardea by storming it, and so Tarquinius subsequently began an extensive siege of the city. In 244 AUC (510 BC), Roman King Lucius Tarquinius Superbus went to war with the Rutuli, a very wealthy nation, whose riches Tarquinius was keen to obtain.
